Thursday morning started bright an early at Hawken Lower School. We sat in on the last chapel talk of the 2013-2014 school year, which was strange for me, considering that I haven't attended a chapel talk since I was in eighth grade myself. It was an interesting talk about Stand Your Ground laws, and at the end we stood up and announced our project. Hopefully some of the middle school students will come see Edges. Several teacher approached us afterwards and expressed interest in coming to the show as well.
After chapel, we headed over to Peet's, our usual meeting spot, to work. I had coupons for free caramel macchiatos and had already consumed a double cappuccino before leaving my house. Needless to say, I was jittery for about an hour, and am now barely awake. At our meeting we also assigned ourselves specific jobs. Up to this point, we have split up the duties of producer, director, and stage manager, but we think that it will be more productive for each of us to have a specialty. Bryce will be directing from now on, because she is most comfortable in the role due to her assistant directing experience with HPS, Rose has the most backstage experience, because she took stagecraft sophomore year, and I will be producing, because I enjoy talking to strangers. We have had a productive week so far and are looking forward to rehearsal tomorrow.

Oh man, the dreaded chapel talk. I remember going up in front of the entire school and feeling sweat all over my entire body, I was so nervous. It was almost like I blacked out for those 8 minutes I was talking, and when it was over it was maybe the most relieved I have ever felt. Anyways, that is so cool that you guys are creating a play! I haven’t really followed your other posts, but did you guys write the screenplay and do the casting? I know how hard it must be for you three girls to do directing, producing, and stage managing as teenagers because I’ve heard and seen all the hard work that goes into the Hawken plays! My only acting experience in a play came in 2nd grade when I took part in the school play, but I also took Acting 1 and Acting 2 with Mr. Larochelle so I’m no amateur! It’s got to be a blast working with your friends. So what is the play about and when is the first showing? I think it’s so cool that you guys have a passion for something like plays and are able to create it for your senior project, that’s what it is all about! I really want to come see it!
ReplyDeleteI recently took Nova to do a presentation at the lower school as part of my project, too... talk about nostalgia. I was sitting in the chapel as all these 3rd and 4th graders came pouring in and I got hit with a weird wave of emotions; I only came to Hawken in 8th grade, so I'm sure your flashbacks were more intense! Still, it was crazy to go back to where it all started now as I'm finishing up my Hawken career. Time really does fly. As for your project goes, that sounds so cool, and I'm especially interested in all the ways you're promoting it. Are you going to any other schools besides Hawken lower to give previews or anything?
