Update 2: The List

The project I have been working on over the course of the weekend and today has been a spreadsheet of all the clients of Mr. Simms’ company, Players Rep. The information I have to find is the players’ college, high school, and hometown.  Mr. Simms explained to me that a big part of having success in the agent business is having connections.  Now one of the main ways Mr. Simms makes connections is through one of his clients knowing another player in the NFL through either growing up in the same hometown, playing together at football camps, or potentially going to the same college.  If one client knows another player, he can give Mr. Simms some sort of contact with that player, whether it be a phone number or email, and this is one of the main ways Mr. Simms expands his business.  The background information on Mr. Simms clients is key because if he can find any sort of connection with the players who are going to be in the NFL draft in 2015, it can give him a direct in with the new potential clients.  After I finish making the list of Mr. Simms clients, I will begin to make a spreadsheet of the players to be drafted next year with similar background information.  This list is something Mr. Simms said that he updates all year long, and I am giving him a solid foundation.  Anything I can do to help.

  1. This is very cool Sid. I actually have been strongly considering becoming a sports agent myself after I finish law school. If I do become agent I’m not too sure which sport I would like to specialize in. Is this your dream profession too and do you know which sport you would want to do? Also it would be cool to know if you got or will get the chance to meet any athletes. I remember talking to Mr. Simms during the professional day we had earlier this year and his job seemed very fun and rewarding but it also seemed like it was hard for him to find clients in the beginning. This is something I have been thinking about a lot while considering whether or not if I want to take on this profession because I can only imagine that it feels pretty discouraging during times you cannot find any new players. But I all is well with your project and this becomes an experience that you will never forget, I am very Jealous! Oh and another thing i was wondering if the only clients Mr. Simms handles are NFL players and does he have any big named guys?

  2. This sounds like a really fun project to be involved in if you are a fan of football, or just professional sports in general. I always knew there were large agencies that represented players in sports, and most of the players just used them as their agents. And while I knew about smaller agents who only had a couple clients, I always wanted to know how they got their players to sponsor. I've always heard that having connections and knowing the right people is huge in business, and apparently that shows true in the sports agent business as well. I was wondering how he got his first client though? Did he have a friend that made it to the NFL, or did he just get a lucky break with a kid coming out of college looking for a smaller agent?
