Bill Bare runs GLSS, the team for which I am serving as an
assistant coach. Bare appointed coaches
Tim and John as additional coaches to provide a strong foundation for what
would eventually become one of the area’s top swim clubs. I had the opportunity of meeting with Bare
today, who introduced me to an app called Ubersense. This app allows coaches to film their
athletes beyond traditional video functions.
Ubersense can slow down the video, edit and trim the video, and even
draw over the video, to highlight any problem areas the athlete might need to
work on. I was able to use this new app
during the main set, 4 x 450 (18 lengths, four times) working on negative
splitting and conditioning.

Caleb is a young swimmer who has trouble angling his hand to
enter the water correctly while swimming freestyle. It will take him a bit of time to get used to
angling his hand in its proper position, since this is a technique Caleb
developed when he first started swimming, but the goal is to have kids visually
recognize what they need to work on with the help of Ubersense.
The draw tool lets you see problem areas more clearly.
Wow Eleanor, that app is so cool, and I love the name, Ubersense! I personally would like to download it and use it in order to take entertaining videos of my friends being silly... Anyway, it seems so useful, I remember when I was a swimmer, I had a lot of trouble swimming straight on backstroke, and I wish this app had been around back then, maybe I would still be in the pool, or maybe not... Also, that quote from Tim sounds like the motto of every single swim coach who has ever existed. Just reading that quote made me feel like a swimmer again. How long has the app been around? Is it free? I think it could be a very successful piece of programming for coaches in all sports, from tennis, to football, to swimming. I hope that Caleb finds the footage useful in his training!
